1. BIRTH OF UPSIFS, LUCKNOW:
The Uttar Pradesh State of Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow is a newly
instituted educational institution and the flagship project of the Government of the
Uttar Pradesh has commenced it’s the First Academic Session (2023-24) was
inaugurated by Hon. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Aditya Nath on
16.08.2023. The Institute with the objectives to build a world class educational
institution for Forensic Science and Legal Studies has been registered under the
Societies Registration Act-1860 (Act No. XXI of 1860) in 2022. At present UPSIFS is
affiliated to the National Institute of Forensic Science (NFSU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
This Institute has been built with the vision of creating professional experts in the field
of forensic science and law. It is also committed to build a world class research center
and service provider in critical areas of DNA and other branches of forensics, cyber
security and emerging technologies blend with legal knowledge for the larger benefit of
the society and humanity.
2. MISSION OF THE INSTITUTE:
The mission of the institute is to provide multidisciplinary and exceptional forensic
science and legal education to students, which includes scientific research, ethical
practices, upholding truth and justice within the global criminal justice system. It also
integrates industry needs to provide research-based solution in collaboration with other
institutions in India and abroad.
3. VISION:
The vision of the Institute in brief is as under:
(i) To create a pool of trained manpower in the fields of forensics and legal studies
who can hold various positions in forensic laboratories all over the country.
(ii) To inculcate the knowledge of science & technology, providing specially designed
academic training programs in various fields of forensic science and emerging
technologies and law, which includes both theoretical inputs and practical
training to generate skilled expertise.
(iii) To create capabilities for upgrading the infrastructure to global standards for
education, training and research in the areas related to forensic science, cyber and
other emerging technologies, criminology, applied behavioral science and law.
(iv) To establish close linkages with various forensic science laboratories, Institutes,
law enforcement authorities and Institutions to enable teaching, training, and
research relevant in forensic science, security and policing and legal domain.

4. THE COURSES OFFERED DURING ACADEMIC SESSION 2023-24:
During the First Academic Session (2023-24), the Institute began with five courses as
under:

The students of these courses were selected on the basis of rigorous competitive
examination conducted by the institute. At present the institute has successfully
concluded its first semester and is running into the second semester. The institute is
committed to provide best opportunity to get campus selection and also enable and
facilitate them for entrepreneurship.
5. THE COURSES OFFERED FOR ACADEMIC SESSION 2024-25 AND SEAT
MATRIX:
This institute has an ambitious approach for introducing various under graduate, post
graduate courses and research activities with passage of time and space. However,
during forthcoming academic year 2024-25, the institute is offering following courses
from the first semester of the academic session tentatively commenced from 05.08.2024.

8. Ph.D. As per GATE /CSIR/UGC Norms. Candidate with JRF or
sanctioned scholarship shall be preferred. In this regard, the
institute shall be the final authority.
7. THE SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The candidates for each course would be selected on the basis of merit of the different
national level tests mentioned in para no. 06. Their final selection will be subject to the
reservation policies in various categories as mandated by the policy of Government of
U.P. The institute shall be the final authority to decide the admissions.
8. ACADEMIC FEE:
The fee structure of the courses for academic session 2024-25 for the new students has
been designed as follows:

It is to be mentioned that this institute aims to promote excellence and also strives to
facilitate the development of the personality of the students as a whole by imparting
knowledge in the fields of forensic science, scientific research, ethical practices and
other co-curricular activities.
However, it is pertinent to mention that the UPSIFS being an evolving institute, this
document is an interim prospectus. The detailed information would be furnished in the
form of complete and comprehensive prospectus in the near future.
